“We have not had a party for a very long time and I think the time is just right to have one. Plus if the rest of family joins, maybe we can have a card game. It has been a long time since I last played cards with Patricia and her family,” said Penny Pincher reminiscently.
York thought it was a fantastic idea to have a tea party. “I don’t see why we can’t have a tea party. Why must you always be so prim and proper, Emily? Why can’t you let down your hair for a change?” Max too barked in agreement.
“Ok, have it your way. But don’t tell me anything if Patricia walks in while we are having a tea party. You three will have to do all the explaining.”
All four sat down to write out invitations. Actually, it was the three of them. Max just ran from one corner to another barking with joy and wagging his tail.
Finally all the invitations were ready and Penny Pincher put them into Max’s mouth and asked him to deliver them. Max ran out of the room to do Penny Pincher’s bidding.
“Now,” said Penny Pincher, “let’s start preparing for the tea party. Emily, please make the sandwiches. York, go to the kitchen quietly and bring some cookies and a human-sized big slice of cake. And I will prepare the tea.”
All three got busy with their chores and before long the dining room clock struck five. All three jumped up. It was time for the tea party and Max was not back. Penny Pincher looked nervously at the door wondering whether any of the other stuffed animals would come.
Suddenly the door opened and in bounded Max; behind him was Yum Yum, Carol-Lynn, Knut V. Berriman, Starr B. Bearyproud, Elvira and Chauncey Fitzbruin, Pooh and all the Quarry Critters.
“Hi! Penny Pincher,” they all greeted him simultaneously. “Thank you for inviting us. We were wondering when you were going to hold a tea party. The last time we attended a tea party we had so much fun,” said Yum Yum.
“Welcome, my friends,” said Penny Pincher graciously. “Let the tea party begin.”
And with that all the stuffed animals and figurines jumped on the cake, sandwiches and cookies. Before long all the food was eaten. No one touched the tea. They all knew that Penny Pincher was the worst tea-maker in the whole wide world!
Emily had put on some music and now the entire lot were dancing and singing. Poor Max lay in one corner, tired after over-eating.
Penny Pincher thought to himself that this was the best tea party he had ever had. He thanked God quietly for giving him such wonderful friends. He was happy that nothing in the world could change that.
