October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also known as NBCAM for short. The pink ribbon will be visible vitually everywhere to remind men and women to raise awareness about breast cancer.

- Over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. this year.
- Over 40,000 women will die from the disease.
- Breast cancer occurs in men. Infact, over 1000 men will be diagnosed this year.
Just Bears and Stuff supports awareness for both men and women. A portion of every Life Bear we sell during October will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Cancers are caused by abnormalities in the genetic material of the transformed cells. These abnormalities may be due to the effects of carcinogens, such as tobacco smoke, radiation, chemicals, or infectious agents. Other cancer-promoting genetic abnormalities may randomly occur through errors in DNA replication, or are inherited, and thus present in all cells from birth. The heritability of cancers is usually affected by complex interactions between carcinogens and the host's genome.
